Why do we allow this kind of thing to happen? This is a nasty source of pollution and there is NO good enough excuse for it. These huge piles of used tires should not even exist. Tire companies are compelled by greed (commonly known as "capitalism") to inflate their huge profits by cranking out short-life, crappy tires -- when it is well-known that they could produce 20-year tires or better with no problem. When the piles of tires burn, somebody often benefits. Look into it. Most of us will suffer in the short term and be hit with long-term serious health problems from the toxics that tire fires put into our air and water.As you probably know, it was tire companies, oil companies and in some places the Mafia (who had a corner on the concrete market) who were responsible for destroying popular public transit systems in US cities, particularly streetcars and trolleys, back in the '40s. Just more tales of stupidity and cupidity leading to a crappier world. |
