| This writer started out being horrified by
the news of toxic waste being used as fertilizer, but now, after investigating
the matter in order to write an article, a state of shock prevails -- shock
at the related stories of things that are happening or are about to start,
as government environmental officials switch to a new mindset about ways
to "deal with" hazardous materials. A couple of vivid examples
that did not get into the article are: Radioactive waste is being sprayed
on farmland (with 2-nosed cows, 9-legged frogs, and massive cancer rates
in the vicinity). A proposal is being seriously considered to spread radioactive
phosphogypsum waste onto US roadbeds (enough for 807,000 miles), a move
that could cause thousands of cancers among unsuspecting citizens.
